How We Got Started and What We do!
In the mid-90s, clayers from along Colorado’s Front Range gathered in Fort Collins. In 1997, the group split into two separate guilds: The Rocky Mountain Polymer Clay Guild organized for people living in northern Colorado and the Mile High Polymer Clay Guild formed for people living in the Denver metro area and southern Colorado.
Lynne Denio organized the first MHPCG meeting and was elected its first President. Board members were Dale Batson, Karen Goulet, Josephine Kershner-Veal, Julie Pennock, Rosemary Probst, Tawna Silsey and Krisin Winter.
Mile High Polymer Clay Guild’s purpose is to encourage the enjoyment, study and promotion of polymer clay as a hobby, craft and art for both guild members and the general public. To this end, displays of members’ work are staged at various library and public buildings throughout the area and guild members provide informational programs for groups such as the Denver Parks and Recreation Staff, Denver Weavers’ Guild and Denver Bead Society.
We have sponsored workshops by well-known polymer clay artists such as Gwen Gibson, Celie Fago, Lindly Haunani, Grant Diffendaffer, Linda Goff, Mike Buessler and Sarah Shriver. We’ve hosted two mountain retreats and more recently have established a City Clay Camp Retreat which is held the second weekend in May. See schedule of coming events for currently planned workshops with Donna Kato and Kathleen Dustin.
Our guild library contains a wide selection of instructional videos by leading artists as well as catalogues and books. We publish a quarterly newsletter which provides information on upcoming workshops and special events, features book and video reviews, articles on specific techniques and helpful hints.
MHPCG holds Clay Day Meetings on the fourth Saturday of each month (except December) at the Lochwood Christian Fellowship Church, 1354 S. Union Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado. Demonstrations, sharing, and work on individual projects fill the exciting day. Guests are always welcome!
Another local guild in Colorado is the Pikes Peak Polymer Clay Guild which meets in Colorado Springs.
